Contact Topographies

Contact Topographies is an ongoing project (2006 onwards), with two sub-projects to date: Contact Topographies pt 1, and A Discordant Arcadia.

‘Topographies’ refers to the mapping and claiming of space integral to our colonial histories and legacies. ‘Contact’ prints are made by placing a negative directly onto photographic paper – there is no enlargement, and the print is the same size as the negative. In this series, the contact prints are made using techniques developed in the nineteenth century, often on paper hand-coated with photo-sensitive salts.

The works include platinum, cyanotype, silver gelatin, salt and albumen prints of varying dimensions (produced from a variety of large-format negatives and from digital negatives).
